Behind the Songs
A Bound Volume by Dustin Kanady
Every song has a story. Behind the Songs is a bound volume that takes you deeper into the heart of Blackhawk Productions' music — the personal experiences, Bible verses, prayers, and pivotal moments that inspired each track. Part devotional, part memoir, part songwriter's journal, this book is for anyone who has ever felt a lyric speak directly to their soul.
Look Inside
Sample Pages
I wrote 'Keep It' on the back porch of my parents' house the summer I came home from my second deployment. The grass needed mowing. The dog was old. Everything felt fragile and sacred at the same time. I opened my Bible to Jude 1:21 — 'Keep yourselves in the love of God' — and the chorus came in about thirty seconds.
There is a moment every soldier knows — the one where the wheels of the aircraft touch American soil and you realize you made it. I have lived that moment more than once. This song is for every man and woman who has ever made that flight, and for the families who kept the porch light on.
John 15:13 has always stopped me cold. 'Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends.' I have known men who did exactly that. This chapter is their story as much as it is mine.
